Without starting a big flame war here i want to go over the basics of the question of if a user should switch to Linux if that user is currently running a Windows machine. My answer to that is it depends on the user and what that user uses their machine for. First of all if you are using Windows and you have applications on there that you know will not be on Linux and you have to use these applications then i would say no your stuck with windows. However if your applications you run all the time have a Linux equivalent and your not tied to windows then switch and try Linux or get a Linux Live CD and try one of those out then switch if you like it.
I have to say Linux impresses me in more ways then any operating system i have seen to date. One of the things thats really blows my mind is what can be done with it. Take for example this article that I’m doing on firewalls. Would you believe me if i told you . you could take one of your old pentium or amd cpu based machines and turn it into a high tech firewall / router? Well you can and trust me when you see these two products I’m referring to you will be impressed.
Ever wondered what a Live CD was? Up until a few years ago i didn’t know myself what one was. It wasn’t until i started to poke around a few web sites that i started to see what these Live CD’s could do. For most of my computer years like the rest of the population i have been stuck behind a Windows machine and i never really looked into what Linux / Live CD’s could do. So when i started to download some of the FREE live CD’s i was blown away.
