First a big thank you to the Ubuntu / Kubuntu communities for providing their time to put together such fine Operating Systems. If you want to learn more about Ubuntu 9.04 you can go here and if you would like more information on Kubuntu 9.04 go here.

With the release of Ubuntu 9.04 I figured it was time for me to download the ISO and see what this new version of Ubuntu brings to the table. While I was at it I also decided to get the Kubuntu 9.04 ISO and if I had time I would check that out as well.

Recently I finally got enough hardware together to build a new computer that will be used to test all the latest games and windows software on. When I built the new machine that meant I had my old main machine to do something with.

First a big thank you to the PCLinuxOS 2007 community for providing their time to put together such a fine Operating System. If you want to learn more about PCLinuxOS 2007 you can go to the following web site..

A few years ago I remember taking a look at PCLinuxOS and then after using it for a bit I decided to try a few other distributions out. Now several years later I recently decided I would take a new look at it after seeing a lot of comments about it on forums that were saying in a codec point of view it was way better then Ubuntu…

After being busy with other stuff and not having much time to play with my Ubuntu install I decided I would fire up Edgy Eft and see what software had updates that needed to be installed. After loading the update manager up I could see there were about 100 updates and so I figured I would update all the software. After doing this update I did a reboot and the computer was working fine and I loaded the update manager up again and I seen the button on the side of the update manager that if I clicked it I would be able to upgrade to the latest version of Ubuntu and that would be Feisty Fawn. The big question is how much stuff will get screwed up if I hit the upgrade button?

You know tonight I was sitting here watching TV and I was wondering, why is it I never see any Ads on TV for Linux or any of the popular distributions? The only ad I ever remember seeing was an IBM ad, I think that had something to do with Linux, and that was selling IBM’s servers or something.

While doing the first article on Kubuntu I had some readers give feedback, and one of those readers suggested in my Review of Kubuntu I should have mentioned how much better it was then windows in terms of security and stability. So I figured I would take some time here and type up what I have seen since using both operating systems.

Before I get into this article I would like to thank the people who made comments on my Kubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake Review. A couple of the readers got back to me and told me how to fix my resolution problem I was having with Kubuntu so that was good.

Another reader mentioned to me that I should have mentioned in my Kubuntu Review why the distribution comes with no codec support for things like mp3.

The reason why I didn’t mention why the codecs were missing is because I feel any windows user who ran into the missing codecs in Kubuntu wouldn’t care why they are not there. The user knows they can’t play mp3’s and to them thats a problem regardless of the why the codecs are not there. However I do agree that I should have mentioned that the codecs for mp3 were proprietary and there fore they were not included just so some users would have known.
