Well just like the game itself this patch failed to do much and in this really short review i go over what it did do and also what it didn’t do. This patch witch i didn’t know at the time would later become known for its memory leak issues forcing EA to tell users to uninstall the patch. The problem was some did uninstall it and some didn’t and then you ended up with a case of having servers running for both the patched and unpatched versions of the game.
EA after this patch released 1.02 and i couldn’t test this patch since it screwed my game up. The patch also didn’t fix much except for the memory leak that was in the previous patch. Patch 1.03 is supposed to be out sometime in the future and that will address 140 bug fixes lol thats right your not seeing things thats 140 bug fixes. Its good to see EA are makers of such well refined code.. The real joke was on me when i payed for the game lol they wont get me on that again..
When patch 1.03 does come out i will review that
the first patch for bf2 is now out and here is a list of what it was supposed to fix.
For those wondering the patch is 13.4 megs in size..
Patch v1.01
Fixed in issue that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.
Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.
Fixed an issue with increasing performance degradation on servers.
Fixed a problem with shader caching on client/host : after the first
map in a rotation, shaders would be loaded on the fly during gameplay.
Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB
Fixed a problem that caused environment mapping to not appear on reflective surfaces.
Fixed a crash that happened when a client picks up a kit that doesn’t exist anymore.
Fixed a problem with AI when the game was paused for a long time: bots would become unresponsive and also shoot more accurately.
LOD distances tweaked on certain objects.
The other thing i noticed is that they have included the current IP of the server you are on in the tab screen. This is a really good thing since everyone i play with was getting fed up with checking xfire or the like to get the IP of a server they were playing in so others could join the server.
Now for the bad despite the fact that the browser is supposed to be more “responsive” then it was in version 1.0 of the game to me it seems like the same thing. If i hit update server list i get nothing at all the game just sits there and there is no server list showing up. If i happened to hit the refresh server button then that seems to work the way the update server should so i don’t know what they got going on here.
As for the key binds i never had a chance to test them out since all my keys are set the way i want them.
As for the rest of the fixes they mention in the change log its not likely a average user will notice any of the changes, unless one of the fixes fixed a problem you were having with the game.
What sort of boggles my mind about this patch is despite the fact i like the two fixes i mentioned above they didn’t even bother to fix some more serious issues with the game. I also find it funny that while they were making the in game browser “more responsive” it never dawned on them to make the filters work or make the update server button work.
So in closing they fixed a couple things in this patch. What still remains though is a game thats still buggy as hell and massively screwed up and i gotta say even at this time after this patch the game still isn’t worth buying at all…
